A third-party converter must be used in order to use this display with older Macs. With the introduction of LED panels, the matte, anti-glare screen panels were retired, except for the 30" Cinema Display. Apple had already moved away from matte screens in its line of iMac desktop computers on August 7, Apple had not offered any equipment with a matte, anti-glare screen after the 15" non-Retina MacBook Pro was discontinued in October until the introduction of the Pro Display XDR in This had been a cause for concern among users who wanted matte screens for their area of work, particularly graphic designers, photographers and users who extensively view their screens.
The Wall Street Journal referred to Apple's removal of the matte screen as one of Apple's worst design decisions. Apple Wiki Explore. Adespoton Davigs72 Pippinitis. Pages Keynote Numbers. I have a inch mid MacBook Pro Retina. All the ports work perfectly I've tested them individually with different peripherals. I recently purchased an Apple inch LED Cinema Display from second-hand; the vendor is someone I trust, and the monitor and cables are all in working order. The LED Cinema Display LEDCD for short has a power cable, which needs to be connected to a power outlet, and a second cable that splits into three cables: DisplayPort, USB 2 and one that goes into my laptop's charging port it actually doesn't fit into my laptop's charging port, but I have an adapter.
The cable that goes into the charging port is for using the LEDCD with my laptop closed which I'm not interested in doing; I want two screens ; I leave that one unplugged at all times. It works perfectly for a while hours at a time : no flickers, blurry image or distortion of any kind.
But then it stops working the display goes completely dark, as if it were unplugged. Unplugging it from my computer and replugging it doesn't work. Neither does unplugging it from the power outlet and replugging it. If I leave it several hours and then plug it back into my laptop, it works again for a few hours before stopping once more. That made it last a little longer than usual, but then it stopped working, as before. I've tried the relevant steps under "If the display image is blank or unusable" on this site.
I still have the problem. I'm not trying to use an iMac as an external display using Target Display Mode, I'm trying to use an external display as an external display. It is five years older than my laptop, after all. However, there are no updates in the Apple Store the site I linked to says to check for updates with the external display connected. I doubt this is the problem, since it does work normally for a while, but I could be wrong. I've checked a few times when it's stopped working, and it's always been at room temperature.

Re: Can I connect the new MacBook Pro (USB C) to a Cinema Display 30? you need a third-party USB-C to [mini] DisplayPort or [Full size]. I have a MacBook Pro Early with the Retina display. I tried hooking up my 30" Cinema Display with the Apple Thunderbolt to DVI Adapter. I have 30” Cinema Display and a MacBook Pro connected to it via a Henge dock and I can use the full resolution.
